Brainerd Lakes Health is an integrated healthcare system founded in 2007 to bring together the healthcare resources in our community and deliver the best possible care to our patients. Our system includes a major regional referral hospital and seven clinics throughout the region. With more than 1,400 employees and over 100 physicians representing 21 specialties, Brainerd Lakes Health is the largest employer in the lakes area and the region’s largest healthcare provider. Brainerd Lakes Health is a member of Essentia Health, a large network of hospitals and clinics.
St. Joseph's Medical Center's heritage dates back to the late 1800s when the 12-bed “Camp Hospital” was founded to accommodate injured or ill lumberjacks. In 1901, the Benedictine Sisters purchased the hospital and renamed it St. Joseph's Hospital. Today, St. Joseph's Medical Center is a 162-bed not-for-profit hospital accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. And to this day, the hospital is sponsored by the Benedictine Sisters.
Our clinics have been providing medical and surgical care since 1974 when Brainerd Medical Center was founded. Now, with over 65 physicians and practitioners at our Brainerd location and family practice clinics in six outreach locations, we are able to provide care for the entire family and access to a wide range of highly-trained specialists.
